AVON NEWSLETTER AND SUMMER RECREATION DIRECTORY - 2007 CLERK/ADMINISTRATOR'S OFFICE The Borough Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We invite you to call or stop in with questions or concerns. Borough Meetings: Regular meetings are held the 2nd & 4th Mondays of the month and take place in the Avon Municipal Building at 7:30 p.m. Caucus Meetings: are held 6:30 p.m. on same evenings as regular meetings. Beach Badges: Season Badges are $75.00. Senior Citizen Badges (age 65 & over) are $35.00 and Teen Badges (ages 12-18) are $35.00. Daily badges will be $8.00. Beach opens weekends beginning Memorial Day weekend and full time on June 16th. Projects: By the time you receive this newsletter, the new pump
station, a state of the art sanitary sewer plant, at Lincoln and Ocean
Avenues will be up and running. You will not notice much because most
of the plant is underground. The only part of the station above ground
is the control room, which looks like a small garage. Next are the demolition
of the old plant and the subsequent sale of the property. The Lincoln
Avenue project should also be in progress. The project includes new
curbs, gutters, drainage and a newly constructed roadway from Third
Avenue to Ocean Avenue. This $400,000.00 project was approximately 80%
funded by grant money. The Fifth Avenue bulkhead project is also slated
to begin this spring, finishing all of our street end bulkheads along
the Shark River, a project that began in 1998. The Sylvan Lake dredging
project has been postponed until the fall due to the delays experienced
with the DEP. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SANITATION Trash: The Department of Public Works and Sanitation is on their summer schedule. Have your trash out BEFORE 6:00 a.m. on the day of pick-up. For those residents that have access to a lane, put your trash there. For those of you who are "walk-ins," do not put your trash out any earlier than 24 hours. Trash pickup is twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays for the whole town. ALL GARBAGE MUST BE IN CANS WITH LIDS PER BOROUGH ORDINANCE! Recycling: Recycling pick-up will be on the First and Third Wednesdays of each month for the entire town. Put your recyclables out the night before - the men start early in the morning. Your recyclables must be in the lane or, if you are a walk-in, put at the curb in proper containers where they are easily seen. Do not put lids on the containers. We do pick up cardboard from businesses only. Please remember that GLASS MEANS BOTTLES ONLY. TAX & WATER/SEWER OFFICE The Borough of Avon has replaced the water meters. With the installation of the new meters, the Borough can now read the meters remotely, and will not need access to the property. Bills will still be mailed semi-annually and Residents will still have the option to pay quarterly. However, both bills will be based on actual readings. With the old meters, we were only able to read the meters once per year. The new meters offer the convenience and benefits to customers not having to: read their own meter, receive estimated bills, give a meter reader access to their home and customers paying for exact water usage. The new meters offer benefits to the municipality by: accurately accounting for its water, eliminating costly estimates, streamline billing and payment processing and reduce time meter reading. The Borough will also attempt to read the meters in between the semi-annual meter readings. If there appears to be an inconsistency in a resident's usage, or excessive usage for that property, every attempt will be made to notify the property owner. We would like to thank the residents, whose meters have been replaced, for their cooperation. If you have not had your meter replaced, you MUST contact Kerry McGrath at 732-502-4510 x 233 IMMEDIATELY!!!! Things to Remember:
